Our next lecture will be given by Dr Jyoti Atwal of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, and it takes place in Teallach Íosa (The Family Centre), St Mel’s Road, Longford, on Monday, 16 June at 8pm. Dr Atwal’s lecture will be entitled ‘Writing India and Ireland: A Historian’s Journey,’ and she will discuss her work on historical links between the two countries, including Margaret Cousins, the Boyle woman who was a major campaigner for female suffrage in India. Dr Atwal’s areas of expertise include women’s history in colonial and post-colonial India. She is also her country’s leading scholar in Irish history.
